لما أهديت معاذة العدوية إلى زوجها صلة بن أشيم أدخله ابن أخيه الحمام ثم أدخله بيتا مطيبا فقام يصلي حتى أصبح وفعلت معاذة كذلك فلما أصبح عاتبه ابن أخيه على فعله فقال له: إنك أدخلتني بالأمس بيتا أذكرتني به النار ثم أدخلتني بيتا أذكرتني به الجنة فما زالت فكرتي فيهما حتى أصبحت.
