أخرج أبو نعيم في الحلية (٩٥/٨) بإسناده عن الفضيل بن عياض (١٠٧ هـ - ١٨٧ هـ) يقول: «الغبطة من الإيمان، والحسد من النفاق، والمؤمن يغبط ولا يحسد، والمنافق يحسد ولا يغبط، والمؤمن يستر ويعظ وينصح، والفاجر يهتك ويعير ويفشي».
أورده #الذهبي في ترجمة الفضيل وقال عقبه: قلت: هذا يفسر لك قوله ﷺ: «لا حسد إلا في اثنتين: رجل أتاه الله مالا ينفقه في الحق، ورجل آتاه الله القرآن، فهو يقوم به آناء الليل، وأطراف النهار». فالحسد هنا، معناه: الغبطة، أن تحسد أخاك على ما آتاه الله، لا أنك تحسده بمعنى: أنك تود زوال ذلك عنه، فهذا بغي وخبث.
