Здесь хранится более 350 тысяч книг на португальском языке, в том числе первое издание «Лузиад» Камоэша. Библиотека была основана в 1887 году португальскими политическими эмигрантами. Интересный факт: фасад библиотеки в Рио-да-Жанейро - копия фасада монастыря Жеронимуш в Белене. Да и делали этот фасад в Лиссабоне, а в Бразилию его доставляли кораблем.
