Today, we issued a statement in response to the U.K. Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ long-anticipated China visit this weekend.
We call on the U.K. Government to: 1. Prioritise human rights with concrete action plans in her meetings with PRC officials; 2. Secure an immediate release of the 1,917 political prisoners in Hong Kong; 3. Impose targeted, Magnitsky-style sanctions on Hong Kong human-rights offenders without further delay; 4. Refuse to use any engagement with China — restarting the annual UK-China Economic and Financial Dialogue — as a bargaining chip, where economic interests are traded at the expense of fundamental human rights; 5. Revoke the privileges and immunities granted to the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London; 6. Endorse the Tower Hamlets Council’s decision to block construction of a brand new Chinese ‘super embassy’ complex.

As five out of seven counts were serious, Hui sentenced Ng to six years and six months in jail. As the broader market downturn continues, yelling online has become the crypto trader’s latest coping mechanism after the rise of Goblintown Ethereum NFTs at the end of May and beginning of June, where holders made incoherent groaning sounds and role-played as urine-loving goblin creatures in late-night Twitter Spaces. Ng, who had pleaded not guilty to all charges, had been detained for more than 20 months. His channel was said to have contained around 120 messages and photos that incited others to vandalise pro-government shops and commit criminal damage targeting police stations. Hui said the time period and nature of some offences “overlapped” and thus their prison terms could be served concurrently. The judge ordered Ng to be jailed for a total of six years and six months. The channel also called on people to turn out for illegal assemblies and listed the things that participants should bring along with them, showing prior planning was in the works for riots. The messages also incited people to hurl toxic gas bombs at police and MTR stations, he added.
