مترجمی توانا و کارآمد می‌تواند بود و به‌درستی به خواست خویش از ترجمه می‌تواند رسید، که در زبان دوم، در زبانی که بدان ترجمه می‌کند ادب‌دان و نویسنده‌ای زبردست باشد، وگرنه هرچه در زبان نخستین، یعنی زبانی که از آن ترجمه می‌کند، استاد باشد، نخواهد توانست به ترجمه‌ای سنجیده و استوار و شایسته دست یازد. ... در کلاس‌های درس می‌بینم که بیشینۀ دشواری کار برای دانشجویان رشتۀ مترجمی و نارسایی و ناتوانی ایشان در کار ترجمه، از بیگانگی‌شان با زبان و ادب پارسی برمی‌خیزد و مایه می‌گیرد.
