على عكس المفهوم العام عند كثير من المهندسين وفقا لتوصيات المعهد الامريكي للخرسانة الباب الثامن عشر يكون جذر العمود (حديد التسليح ) في الأساس إلى داخل قلب العمود هو الصحيح اي ينتهي بهوك بزاوية قائمة كما في الرسمة المرفقة وذلك لتحقيق اتصال معقد أو وثيق بين القاعدة والعمود ..
