Join us for a lecture «Russia: the Country that Wants to be Different» by historian Gijs Kessler. He will provide an account of Russia's post-Soviet attempt to overcome the social, economic and political legacy of the past and become a 'normal country’ – a market economy, a democracy and a country open to the rest of the world - the dream that people cherished amidst the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.
Gijs Kessler is Senior Research Fellow at the International Institute of Social History (IISH) in Amsterdam. He is a specialist on the social and economic history of Russia and the Soviet-Union. From 2002 to 2016 he worked and lived in Moscow, where he taught, next to his work for IISH, at the BA programme of the New Economic School. He is co-founder of the Electronic Repository of Russian Historical Statistics. For more information: https://iisg.amsterdam/en/about/staff/gijs-kessler
The lecture is organized by the Caucasus Institute and the Yerevan Centre for International Education.
It will take place on the 8th of October, 16.00 at Chatents str., 31/4
