Last Update:
The researchers and members of the YCIE, Sergei Shtyrkov and Zhanna (Jeanne) Kormina, have published articles in a special issue "Marking Space: The Russian Orthodox Politics of Self-Assertion" of the journal Archives de Sciences Sociales des Religion.
This issue of the journal, where Zhanna was co-editor in collaboration with French anthropologist Detelina Tocheva (CNRS, Paris), is the outcome of an international research project (2019–2021), supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and the french Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme.
Sergei Shtyrkov's article explores archaeological excavations in the village of Nuzal in North Ossetia and the ensuing public debate on the religious identity of the Ossetians' ancestors, the Alans.
Zhanna (Jeanne) Kormina in her article develops Michel de Certeau’s concept of utopian space, applying it to the analysis of royal memorial processions in Yekaterinburg.
The special issue is available here.
