بر اساس اعلام مسئولان وزارت اطلاعات و فرهنگ، در حال حاضر ۹ اثر باستانی افغانستان در فهرست یونسکو به ثبت رسیده‌اند. خبیب غفران، سخنگوی این وزارت، تأکید کرد: «وزارت اطلاعات و فرهنگ در تلاش است تا برخی از آثار تاریخی شهر هرات، مسجد نه‌گنبد در بلخ، تخت رستم و سایر مناطق مهم را در فهرست یونسکو ثبت کند.»
