Military coup in Sudan
We call for urgent action and taking the necessary measures to put an end to the serious violations of human rights and public freedoms that are taking place in Sudan following the military coup carried out by the military members of the Transitional Sovereignty Council.
The current situation portends a rapid and catastrophic descent into violence that is difficult to control, compared to what happened on June 3, 2019 in what is known as the massacre of the General Command, which was carried out by the same group that is carrying out the coup now and is now controlling the reins of affairs.
According to the information we have received, there are disturbing news about the arrest of civilian members of the transitional government, in clear violation of human rights and public freedoms, especially since some detainees suffer from health conditions that require urgent medical care. We have also noticed disturbing images on social media of bullets being fired at peaceful demonstrators, which constitutes a serious violation of human rights by the de facto authority in Sudan.
We will closely monitor the situation and publish reports of violations on the ground
