Бондарчук занимал пост с октября 2021 года. Уход обосновали «увеличением занятости по вопросам основной деятельности Бондарчука как основателя Art Pictures Studio и генерального продюсера «НМГ Студии».
При этом известно, что у «Ленфильма» есть непогашенная задолженность более 100 млн рублей и активные судебные разбирательства, в том числе с собственником компании — Росимуществом.
