چگونه یک جمله پیچیده در زبان انگلیسی بسازیم؟

ساختن یک جمله پیچیده (complex sentence) در واقع آنقدرها که می گوید پیچیده «complex» نیست. فقط باید به ساختار فکر کنید. در زیر یک مثال آورده شده است:

My mother cried an ocean of tears while watching her favorite soap opera.(مادرم هنگام تماشای سریال مورد علاقه اش به اندازه یک اقیانوس اشک ریخت.)

بند مستقل: My mother cried an ocean of tears
بند وابسطه: While watching her favorite soap opera

توجه داشته باشید که بند مستقل می تواند به تنهایی به عنوان یک جمله با یک موضوع و یک گزاره باشد. می توانیم به صورت جداگانه به صورت یک جمله کامل مانند این بنویسیم:

“My mother cried an ocean of tears.”
گزاره نهاد

بند وابسته از طرف دیگر با حرف ربط “while” و با یک عبارت بی معنی شروع می شود. اگر آن را جدا کنیم، بلاتکلیف می مانیم.

“While watching her favorite soap opera”

بند بالا بی معنی است زیرا ما را با این سوال روبرو می کند که “چه کسی سریال مورد علاقه او را تماشا می کرد؟” به صورت نامشخص بیان شد، اما اگر دو بند را به هم بپیوندیم، جمله های وابسته و مستقل، می توانیم یک جمله جدید و معنادار تشکیل دهیم.

حروف ربط فرعی «after, although, as, because, before, if, since, until, whereas, while» معمولاً برای تشکیل یک جمله پیچیده در انگلیسی استفاده می شود.

مثال ها:
After the wedding ceremony, my friend and I will go to the club to party.
Mr. Miller reported to work today, although he was feeling under the weather.
My father thought I was awake as he saw me moving.
Because of the flood, the buses were not able to get through.
You should finish your homework before going to bed.
He will meet me if he has time.
She has been so depressed since her mother’s death.
The application is open until further notice.
The driver’s feet were wounded, whereas his arms were broken.
I bumped into an associate while rushing to the elevator.

تشکیل جملات پیچیده با WH-question
words + ever.
کلمات “whatever, whenever, wherever, whichever, whoever, and however” نیز در جملات پیچیده استفاده می شود. در اینجا نمونه ها آورده شده است:

You can choose whatever style of dress you like.
Just let me know whenever you are ready.
Wherever you go, I hope you’ll be fine.
Whoever told you the information, I’m sure she’s lying.
The sales results are not good however you look at them.
