Last Update:
Today we held a wonderful event! An open training session was staged at the Flagpole Rink, the largest skating rink in the world. I want to say a huge thank you to Gazprom for this opportunity – this is a fantastic location which attracts more and more people every year. Gazprom undertakes a lot of efforts not only for the development of sport in our country, not only supports the Russian national team, but also forms a new urban environment at the same time, and the Flagpole Rink is one of the best examples of this. For us, this is a chance to unwind a little and engage with the supporters. Our team is open to everyone, we’re always happy to venture into the community and meet with those for whom we play. Before the start of the main international tournament of the year, we all charged ourselves with positive emotions and held a celebration for the young players of the SKA Academy, with Russia’s best players showing their skills on the open ice.
Such events take us back to our childhood, when we all learned to skate on open skating rinks such as frozen ponds and lakes. It's great that we were able to immerse ourselves in this atmosphere again, there is a special charm to it on the eve of the festive season.
The day started for us at the Peter and Paul Fortress, located at the heart of Saint Petersburg. Everyone knows about the tradition of firing the cannon from the Naryshkin Bastion, and today this honourable mission was undertaken by the Russian national team. The oldest monument of Saint Petersburg, the history of our country, the winter Neva and a rare glimpse of the sun for our city made for a truly symbolic event.
And, the Channel One Cup will begin tomorrow! Thanks to everyone who has already purchased tickets - I know that there are almost none left for the first game. We’re expecting a full house and we look forward to seeing you at the matches of the Russian national team!
