Freedom [თავისუფლება — The Right to Be Myself] – a single word in Georgian that profoundly captures the essence of Bob Marley's acclaimed song.
The song, which has become a symbol of the fight for civil rights, was inspired by the words of Jamaican-born activist and politician Marcus Garvey, delivered in a speech in 1937.
"Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our minds.
Have no fear for atomic energy,
'Cause none of them can stop the time
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look".
The composition is performed by Vahe Khachatryan, a resident musician at the Union Jazz Bar in Tbilisi.
