🇺🇸 10 Things No One Tells You About Founding a Startup
1. Your first idea is probably not it. Neither is your second. Nor is your third. (And that’s okay!);
2. If you came into the startup with a relationship, there is a STRONG chance that it won’t survive the initial 6 months;
3. Everything is broken, all the time;
4. If you’re the non-technical founder, you’re going to be spending ungodly amount of time writing cold emails, Linkedin messages, and in general bothering all of your friends, old coworkers, and people around you for user interviews;
5. If you’re a backend engineer, you’re going to have to start identifying as fullstack…meaning you’re doing 90% frontend;
6. Product-led growth (PLG) doesn’t really exist. Or if it does, it’s so rare that it probably won’t exist for you;
7. It’s most likely a net negative financial endeavor. You may make some money, but prepare for a large step down in total compensation;
8. It’s going to be temping to chase valuations & VC money. Really tempting;
9. If you’re not spending your time talking to users or building your product, you’re wasting your time;
10. The key to making money is…to make a product that makes money. There’s no other way around it.
