The Death of an Oil Superpower

A seemingly ordinary, but in fact very remarkable event took place the other day. Rosstat classified information on the volume of oil product production in Russia. The corresponding decision was issued directly by Prime Minister Mishustin. Now Russians will not be able to find out how much diesel fuel, fuel oil, liquefied propane and butane is produced in the country. The government explains this measure by concern for the end consumer, who has absolutely no need to know about the state of oil refining in the Russian Federation and the origin of the oil products poured into transport and used for other needs. Allegedly, the lack of data will not exert negative pressure on the market, there will be no artificial excitement.

In the context of the topic raised, significant concerns immediately emerge. In matters of secrecy, just like in the NKVD-KGB era, Russian leaders have no equal.  They know how to conceal behind the wall of silence the most painful topics, such as the war death toll, its cost, and the scale of corruption that  goes along with it, not to mention falsification of the historical past. Each of the voiced aspects contains colossal and terrifying data. In particular, 615,000 soldiers and officers have been killed or wounded since the invasion of Ukraine. According to Putin, as of December 2023, there were 617,000 personnel deployed on the Ukrainian battlefield altogether. Complete zeroing...

No less impressive is the cost of war for Russia as it has already drawn $250 billion to sustain it. This figure reflects incomplete data, collected bit by bit, but even this amount is over 20% of Russia's budget. Unprecedented madness: burning down the country's future to feed the Moloch, the beast of carnage. At the same time, a fourth general from Shoigu's team was arrested. The inquiry believes former deputy minister Pavel Popov embezzled  $5 million through fraudulent schemes. It seems like a laughable sum, but considering that up to 900 generals serve in different branches of the Russian armed forces, the scale of the graft could be estimated at tens of billions of dollars! In fact, any Russian general can be easily charged if he gets in the focus of the FSB, the agency eagerly working to get a hold of some dirty money flows.

But let's get back to the oil topic.  The reason for the recent secrecy spree is the damage caused by Ukrainian drones attacking Russian refineries and oil depot's. The reaction of the Ukrainian side is completely justified. After all, since September 2022, Russia has been pursuing its energy terror, so now Ukraine targeting energy infrastructure facilities in the European part of Russia is a direct consequence of Moscow’s aggression.

The fire at the oil depot in Proletarsk alone engulfed over 100,000 cubic meters of diesel fuel. The blaze was caused by a Ukrainian strike, the largest since Kyiv launched retaliatory attacks. The exact scale of the devastation in Rostov region is yet to be assessed but the incident likely terrified Mr Mishustin, who ordered to classify all oil refining stats.
Experts from Institute of Energy Research at the Russian Academy of Sciences believe that Russia, having lost access to Western technology and key markets for raw materials, will lose 40% of fuel exports in the next 25 years, and these export incomes will plunge by 2.8 times. Moreover, in the end of the 2010s, hydrocarbon exports formed about a third of Russia's GDP but in the next decade, the contribution of the fuel and energy sector to the country's GDP will drop fivefold! The crisis could be tackled through external investments in the energy market, but under the existing sanctions, this option is clearly off the table.

Thus, by unleashing a war, Putin, much to the delight of Iran and the Arab world, threw Russia out of the oil league. Soon, the country itself will get hooked on oil imports.

This is what the discreet death of a once key oil superpower looks like.

In addition, you can use your channel to build and improve your company image, boost your sales, make profits, enhance customer loyalty, and more. Ng Man-ho, a 27-year-old computer technician, was convicted last month of seven counts of incitement charges after he made use of the 100,000-member Chinese-language channel that he runs and manages to post "seditious messages," which had been shut down since August 2020.
