A guy I know at the gym told me a story once.. when we were going back home after a Saturday gym session
...& imma share it with you guys
A lady asked an old ነጋዴ on the street
" እንቁላል ስንት ነው ?"... The ነጋዴ replied ..
" 1 እንቁላል 13 ከ 50 ነው "
The lady responde..." 7 እወስዳለሁ ግን በ13 ብር ሂሳብ " the old ነጋዴ replied
" እሺ በተመቸሽ ዋጋ ግዢኝ ..ትርፍ ባላገኝም ለልጆቼ ዛሬ ምግብ መግዣ ይሆነኛል "
She bought her eggs በ13 ብር ሂሳብ and left with the feeling that she had won....then she got into a fancy cafe with her friend....she and her friend ordered what they wanted....they ate a little cake and left half of it...so they paid the bill ...which was 280 birr ....
The ladies gave 300 birr & told the cafe owner to keep the 20 birr change as a tip
This story might seem quite normal to the owner of the fancy restaurant...but very unfair to the egg seller.... The question it raises is....
Why do we always need to show that we have power when we buy from the needy???
And why are we generous to those who don't even need our generosity?
We once read somewhere that a father used to buy things from poor people at a high price...
even though he didn't need the things...Sometimes he paid more for them...
His children were amazed..One day they asked him "why are you doing this dad?"
The father replied...
"IT'S CHARITY WRAPPED IN DIGNITY"
