At Easter, women in Greece have always baked tsourékia, flaky, sweet yeast plaits with the incomparably delicious flavour dominance of two oriental spices.

And red-coloured eggs for each of them for the obligatory egg hit-"battle", in which Socrates, the godfather, was only "beaten" by Papú Jiannis, the grandfather on his mother's side, in the final.
