عن حيوة بن شريح قال: لقيت عقبة بن مسلم فقلت له: بلغني أنك حدّثت عن عبدالله بن عمرو بن العاص رضي الله عنه، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أنه كان إذا دخل المسجد قال:" أعوذ بالله العظيم، وبوجهه الكريم، وسلطانه القديم، من الشيطان الرجيم". قال: أقطْ؟ قلتُ: نعم. قال: فإذا قال ذلك قال الشيطان: حُفِظَ مني سائر اليوم". رواه أبو داود بإسناد صحيح. قال النووي:"رواه أبو داود بإسناد جيد". "الخلاصة"(٩١٦).
ظاهر الحديث يدل على أنه ينبغي أن يقال هذا الدعاء عند دخول المسجد لصلاة الفجر. لقوله: حُفظ مني سائر اليوم. ولو دعا به في كل دخول للمسجد فلاحرج. مع الدعاء الآخر المشهور.
