Many people think that space exploration is a waste of resources. It would be better to spend them on improving the lives of people on earth.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
The first reason why space exploration is well worth the resources spent on it is that it gives us a valuable opportunity to observe our planet from space. Satellite systems in Earth’s orbit along with the International Space Station provide us with information about weather patterns and atmospheric processes. This knowledge not only allows for relatively accurate weather forecasts but also helps to predict some natural disasters, such as hurricanes or dangerous cyclones, thus helping people to prepare for such events and evacuate to safety in a timely manner. Furthermore, observations of Earth made from space can provide scientists with essential data related to climate change, including air temperature trends and release of pollutants, which helps scientists monitor climate and understand it better. This can potentially lead to new approaches and technologies that can mitigate the harm done by climate change to people and ecosystems.
Additionally, continued investment into space exploration is important because it leads to technological advancements that make people’s lives better. A notable example is the development of the Global Position System (GPS), which has become indispensable for today’s navigation. Originally created as a military technology with the help of orbit satellites, this system is now widely utilised by both governments and the general public for a wide range of purposes, from travel to global logistic systems. As humanity progresses, the demand for innovations, especially in the sphere of wireless communication, is likely to grow, meaning that further developing such technologies and creating new ones will become even more critical. As a result, the role of satellites, which are fundamental to space exploration, will continue to increase as well. Therefore, investing resources in space exploration is essential for driving progress and ensuring technological advancement.
To conclude, I totally disagree that allocating resources to space exploration is a waste of resources because it provides crucial information about our planet and fosters technological innovation, ultimately benefiting humanity.
