🇷🇺🦁 A short excerpt from a Russo-Tatar thematic dictionary, published in the late 19th century.

Interestingly, in addition to the provided entries in their expected scripts (Cyrillic for Imperial Russian and Perso-Arabic for Иске Имлә Tatar), we can also find the exact opposite, namely Russian rendered in Perso-Arabic and Tatar in pre-reform Russian, creating some unorthodox and intriguing spellings.

Some orthographic intricacies worth pointing out:
- Mute initial Perso-Arabic Alif (ا) in front of some Russian words starting with consonants (e.g. اقواص for квасъ)
- The Russo-Tatar letter "s" /s/ is represented by the pharyngealized Perso-Arabic letter ṣād (/sˤ/ ص) instead of the expected letter sīn (/s/ س), even though sīn perfectly matches the Russo-Tatar pronunciation. This orthographic choice was actually rather common, even though I don't quite know why
- Mute final ъ's for Tatar words ending in consonants (e.g. балъ for بال). Ladino throwback anyone?
